Preparation for colonoscopy

Three days before the examination, you should switch to a low-residue diet (if the patient suffers from severe constipation — four to five days before the examination).

You should exclude from your diet:

  • vegetables, fruits, berries, mushrooms, black bread, bread with additives, beans, peas, seeds, greens, bran, nuts, poppy seeds (and baked goods containing them), gelatin desserts, sweets;

  • coffee, carbonated drinks, red fruit juices and juices with pulp, milk, alcohol.

You may consume:

  • broth, boiled or steamed meat (including fish and poultry fillet);

  • cheese, rice, potatoes, oil;

  • white bread rusks (without additives), butter;

  • homemade cookies (without fruit additives and nuts), tea.

On the day before the procedure, a light breakfast is allowed. Then, in the first half of the day, you may have only clear broths, jelly, clear juices, and you MUST drink a LARGE amount of still water.

In the second half of the day, the patient may consume clear juices and clear still liquids.

It is strictly forbidden to fast or to avoid drinking!

Preparation

For preparation, the patient takes a laxative (Fortrans, Moviprep, Endofalk, Diagnol), which should be purchased at the pharmacy.

It is easier to take the solution and water for colonoscopy preparation chilled, gradually: 0.5 liters over 30 minutes in small sips. In 1 hour, you should drink about 1 liter of the solution or water; in the evening, you may take longer. If nausea occurs, stop drinking the solution, have a little water with lemon, walk around, get some fresh air, and then continue taking the solution.

If there is no bowel movement after taking the medication, it is necessary to gradually drink a small amount of water (usually up to 0.5 liters) until it appears.

Please note! For 3 hours before the colonoscopy, you must avoid taking any medication, liquids, or tablets!

Two-stage preparation (evening–morning) — optimal method

Purchase a package of EZICLIN.

1. In the evening before the procedure, mix the contents of 1 bottle of Eziclin (there are 2 bottles in the package) with water (still mineral or boiled) to a total volume of 0.5 liters.

Start taking Eziclin, for example, at 6:00 p.m. (it may be 1–2 hours later). Drink this solution, additionally washing it down with two glasses of water filled to the measuring line over 1.5–2 hours.

2. In the morning on the day of the examination, repeat the steps: dissolve and drink the same dose — first 0.5 liters of solution (contents of the second bottle of Eziclin + water to 0.5 liters), then another 1.0 liter of water. In the morning, start taking Eziclin and water 5 hours before the colonoscopy and finish 3 hours before the examination.

Please note! Taking the entire diluted medication and the additionally required amount of water (without restricting yourself) must be completed no later than 3 hours before the colonoscopy.

One-stage preparation

One-stage preparation is not the optimal method. It is possible only if you have a prior appointment for a colonoscopy at 8:00 a.m. or 9:00 a.m.

First, purchase the medication EZICLIN.

  1. In the evening before the procedure, mix the contents of 1 bottle of Eziclin with water (still mineral or boiled) to a total volume of 0.5 liters.

  2. Start taking Eziclin, for example, at 6:00 p.m. (possibly earlier). Drink the diluted solution, washing it down with two glasses of water filled to the measuring line over 2 hours.

  3. Then (at about 8:00 p.m.), mix the contents of the second bottle of Eziclin with water to a total volume of 0.5 liters. Again, take the diluted Eziclin and 1 liter of water over the next 2 hours.

Standard preparation method

You need to purchase 4 sachets of one of the following products: Endofalk, Fortrans, Diagnol, Moviprep:

  • 1 sachet — dissolve in 1 liter of still water. Drink between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

  • 2 sachet — dissolve in 1 liter of still water. Drink between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

  • 3 sachet — dissolve in 1 liter of still water. Drink between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

  • 4 sachet — dissolve in 1 liter of still water. Drink between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Please note! Taking the entire diluted medication solution and water should be completed no later than 3 hours before the colonoscopy.
