Improve your appearance comprehensively and in one go, for example, remove bags under the eyes and at the same time the double chin. Or correct drooping eyelids and simultaneously reduce body volume. This is convenient and more sparing for the body.
How to get a wow-effect in one surgery and what criteria to use when choosing a clinic is explained by a surgeon of the highest category, Candidate of Medical Sciences, ISAPS member, plastic surgeon of the “Oxford Medical” clinic, Olga Hyndych.
Lunch Break Surgery
Plastic Surgeries
Blepharoplasty and liposuction are currently very popular worldwide, including in Ukraine. They are even called “lunch break surgery.”
This term was introduced in America to refer to surgical interventions lasting up to a few hours, after which the patient returns to everyday activities. Thus, during a lunch break a person can come to the clinic and undergo a rejuvenating plastic surgery — short but effective. And improve not one but two or three zones at once.
That is why there is now a trend of combining, for example, blepharoplasty, which covers the eye area, and liposuction, which refines the lower third of the face or reduces fat deposits in certain parts of the body. If the surgery is performed under local anesthesia, one can go home in half an hour; if under general anesthesia — in four hours, the main rule being not to drive.
The advantage of this practice. Since each of these operations lasts a short time, they can be performed together, in one session. This saves time and reduces the negative impact on body functions, as the person spends less time under anesthesia and recovers better after surgery. Patient safety comes first. In addition, such a combination allows emphasizing the rejuvenating effect of the face — a fresh open look and a defined chin line.
What transformations to expect and how long the result will last — read on.
Blepharoplasty
Currently one of the most popular surgeries, as it significantly improves the appearance of the eye area. The aim of the procedure is excision of excess skin as well as fat pads of the upper and/or lower eyelids (simply put — bags). Usually they appear with age, but in some people these changes manifest as early as 25. However, surgery is still recommended after thirty.
If over the years the corners of the eyes have dropped, blepharoplasty also solves this problem. But wrinkles or crow’s feet are removed by other methods — laser resurfacing or microneedle lifting, that is, cosmetic procedures.
What is the rehabilitation period? Sutures are removed on the seventh day after surgery, and minor swelling or bruising disappears individually for everyone.
The effect of blepharoplasty can last up to 10 years. To maintain the result as long as possible, quality care of the eye area by a cosmetologist is important.
Liposuction
During consultation the plastic surgeon will necessarily explain that liposuction is a method of body contouring (not weight loss!) by removing subcutaneous fat deposits. With the exception of some limitations where such intervention is not advisable or risky, aspiration is performed in almost all zones: back, sides, anterior abdominal wall, inner and outer thighs, knees, arms, chin.
In each case the surgeon decides: is only liposuction needed or should it be combined with other techniques. For example, the anterior abdominal wall requires additional assessment of skin and muscle tone, presence of diastasis, because in this case liposuction alone will not solve the problem — abdominoplasty is also necessary. The same applies to the inner thighs: if skin tone is significantly reduced, a lift is also prescribed.
Sometimes liposuction is combined with lipofilling: the fat tissue obtained during the surgery is immediately injected into needed areas — face, buttocks, or breasts — to add volume or restore contours. Thus, two results are achieved in one intervention.
However, it must be borne in mind that no more than 4.5 liters of total fat aspirate can be removed at once. Otherwise, it will be unsafe. Surgeons who value their patients will not risk their health.
What is the rehabilitation period? For a month you will need to wear special compression garments, and then add physical activity. On average, some discomfort is felt for a week, and swelling or bruising may persist for another month. The overall result can be evaluated after two months.
If diet is not followed, physical activity decreases, or hormonal imbalance occurs, the fat cells that remain after liposuction may increase in size.
“If we perform liposuction of the body and blepharoplasty at the same time, we achieve facial rejuvenation and at the same time a slimmer figure. Two surgeries under one anesthesia improve different areas and thus emphasize overall changes in appearance. In a month or two after the intervention, you will already have a wow-effect!”
How to Choose a Clinic and a Surgeon
Before surgery, tests are mandatory to examine the general condition of the body — you must be healthy. It is convenient when this can be done directly at the clinic where the plastic surgeon consultation takes place.
What is important when choosing a specialist:
-
experience;
-
certificates allowing work in this field;
-
psychological contact with the doctor: if you feel comfortable, confident, and calm with the surgeon, then the surgery will be beneficial;
-
how clearly and in detail the specialist explains all processes and answers questions;
-
which tests are prescribed.
When choosing a clinic, consider the following:
-
modern equipment;
-
necessary conditions for surgery, including autonomous light and water supply;
-
own laboratory, where tests can be done immediately before surgery and results received.
Advantages will be:
-
inpatient department, where you will get an anesthesiologist’s consultation and have surgery. And in case of large-scale liposuction in several areas, you will stay overnight under the care of medical staff who provide anesthesia, dressings, and care;
-
resuscitation unit with necessary equipment, which allows you, the surgeon, and the anesthesiologist to feel safe;
-
intensive care ward with monitoring equipment for supervision;
-
several operating rooms for performing multiple surgeries simultaneously;
-
CT, X-ray, and laboratory working 24/7;
-
operating room with all useful options, such as a heated operating table, etc.
And most importantly in wartime surgery, even in plastic, is the safety that the clinic can provide you.
