Preparation for
abdominal CT scan
You must follow a diet for 24 hours before the test:
exclude fruits, vegetables, peas, beans, cabbage, black bread, hot spices, canned foods from your diet, and do not drink fresh milk;
You may eat white bread, lean boiled meat and fish, porridge, soups, and dairy products (if tolerated) in moderation.
On the evening before the procedure, you may have a light dinner before 6 p.m.
On the day of the examination, you should not eat anything. The procedure is performed on an empty stomach.
If the examination is scheduled for the afternoon, you may have a light breakfast.
You should also drink plenty of fluids—up to 2-3 liters per day.
Medication preparation for the study
Before the examination, the doctor will prescribe a medication that you should take to prepare for the CT scan. This may be Fortrans or Diagnol, osmotic laxatives that promote better cleansing of the intestinal walls. This will make the examination more thorough and diagnostically accurate.
How should the drug be taken?
You should purchase two packets of Fortrans or Diagnol. Dissolve the contents of each packet in 1 liter of water.
- The first liter of solution should be taken in small portions within an hour from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- The second liter should also be drunk within an hour from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
If you are taking Metformin, you should stop taking it 24-48 hours before the test.
To undergo the examination, please bring your passport, the results of all previous examinations (doctor's consultative conclusions, X-rays), and extracts from your medical history (if available).
