To establish the presence or absence of a virus in the body (a swab is taken from the oropharynx or nasopharynx);
Coronavirus test
Coronavirus test in Kyiv
The study intendes to test whether the patient is infected with the coronavirus that caused the COVID-19 pandemia or not. «Coronavirus» is a common and widespread name of a SARS-CoV-2 virus, the infection which can cause COVID-19 disease.
When do you need a coronavirus test?
The examination can be assigned to people with symptoms of an acute respiratory viral infection (ARVI). As a rule, these are:
- fever;
- cough;
- labored breathing.
Other common symptoms of ARVI, such as the runny nose, are less common in coronavirus infections but are not excluded.
Also, the analysis can be assigned to patients who do not have any symptoms of the disease, but:
- had contact with confirmed virus carriers;
- arriving from countries of the red zone (with a high incidence of COVID-19);
- those who wish to leave the self-isolation regime ahead of schedule;
- leaving the country (a negative coronavirus test is a basis for visiting many countries worldwide).
Coronavirus testing can also be used as a precaution - to detect asymptomatic viruses.
Coronavirus testing at Oxford Medical
Several laboratory research methods can confirm or deny the fact of a patient's infection with coronavirus:
Analysis for coronavirus by PCR
Test for igM antibodies to coronavirus
Allows detecting antibodies produced by the body against coronavirus in the acute stage of the disease (a blood sample is taken for analysis);
Test for antibodies igG to coronavirus
Allows detecting antibodies produced by the body against coronavirus in the later stages of the disease (a blood sample is taken for analysis);
Rapid tests (express tests)
Test systems for the immediate determination of antibodies of both classes (a blood sample is taken for analysis). Rapid tests are the least accurate, but they allow you to get the result almost instantly - this is necessary, as a rule, during an emergency hospitalization of a patient.
All types of tests are widely used in medical practice, but they have many features. For example, the PCR test for coronavirus most accurately shows a virus in the human body. Antibody tests are also quite accurate, but the level of antibodies strongly depends on the person's immune response. Therefore, according to statistics, their error is higher.
Benefits of testing at Oxford Medical
The key to accurate PCR analysis of a coronavirus is the correct smear. Therefore, the smear for the PCR test on the coronavirus at our clinic is taken only by doctors who, in addition to taking the material for analysis, conduct the initial examination of the patient and assess his condition. Antibody tests for coronaviruses do not require special preparation from the patient and are performed by nurses.
The main advantage of testing at a private clinic is the speed of obtaining the result. Currently, state laboratories are crowded to such an extent that it takes 7 to 10 days to get a result. Instead, the patient receives the results at the Oxford Medical clinic, depending on the type of analysis, within 1-2 days.
