Filling of milk teeth

Filling of milk teeth in Kiev

Filling of baby teeth – is the only way to treat caries. It allows you to remove the affected tooth tissue and restore its shape using a special material. Thanks to this, you can avoid the risk of spreading infection and premature tooth loss.

At the «Oxford Medical» clinic, dental treatment for children is carried out without pain and stress. Pediatric dentists use play adaptation methods that help kids get used to an unfamiliar place and trust the doctor. In addition, at the request of the parents and the young patient,  colored fillings are installed on the teeth. The treatment is performed under local anesthesia or sedation (drug sleep).

Advantages of filling baby teeth at Oxford Medical

Do baby teeth need to be filled?

This question arises for many parents, because baby teeth are short-lived. By the age of 12-13, they are completely replaced by permanent teeth. However, this is not a reason to leave a child without treatment.

Caries is an infectious disease, and in children it develops faster than in adults. In a few months, it can penetrate into the deep tissues of the tooth, completely destroy it and cause inflammation - pulpitis or periodontitis. These complications are accompanied by severe pain and require immediate medical attention.

Caries can also quickly spread to neighboring teeth and molars.

As for premature tooth loss due to caries, it can lead to problems with diction and improper bite formation.

Dentists at «Oxford Medical» recommend bringing your child to the doctor for a check-up every six months and, if necessary, filling baby teeth. Thanks to modern technologies, this procedure is painless.

Indications for filling milk teeth

The main indication for filling baby teeth is caries. At an early stage, it is practically invisible - the affected area of the tooth loses its shine and a small yellow spot appears on it. As the infection progresses, it penetrates deeper and reaches the pulp - soft tissues through which blood vessels and nerves pass. At this stage, there is increased sensitivity to cold and hot, and inflammation may develop, accompanied by acute pain.

Enamel defects can also be indications for filling: hypoplasia, fluorosis or cracks. In these cases, to protect the tooth from further destruction, restoration is performed - the front wall is covered with a composite material.

What fillings are placed on baby teeth?

In dentistry "Oxford Medical", high-quality filling materials of American and European production are used to treat baby teeth. The dentist decides which one is best for the child after conducting an examination and assessing the degree of tooth damage.

The most common filling materials used for fillings are:

Photopolymer materials

They are highly durable and have a wide range of colors, which allows you to choose the most suitable shade and make the filling invisible. The service life is from 5 to 15 years. Fillings harden under the influence of an ultraviolet lamp, which is why they are also called light-curing.

Composite materials

They have high strength and a wide palette of shades. Unlike photopolymers, which are made in the form of pastes, composite fillings consist of several components that the dentist mixes before filling. They are distinguished by their special plasticity, which allows them to easily recreate the physiological shape of the tooth.

Glass ionomer materials

They contain fluoride, which is released within a year after the filling is placed and helps protect the tooth from secondary caries. Due to this, as well as strong adhesion to tissues, glass ionomers are most often used in pediatric dentistry. In addition to fillings, they are also suitable for closing fissures.

Component or colored materials

They are made from a mixture of photopolymer and glass ionomer cement. These fillings are designed specifically for children and allow them to choose the desired color before starting treatment.

Colored fillings add an element of play to the treatment process. First, the child chooses the color they like, and then with interest studies the result and is proud of the peculiarity of their teeth.

Materials for colored fillings were developed specifically for the treatment of deciduous teeth. They are non-toxic and hypoallergenic, contain tooth-strengthening fluoride, adhere well to enamel and withstand high chewing loads.

Stages of filling baby teeth

Before starting treatment, the dentist conducts a diagnosis. If the examination does not allow to assess the condition of the tooth, he prescribes an X-ray.

“Oxford Medical” uses a modern portable device that allows you to get a high-quality digital image with minimal radiation exposure. Based on its results, the doctor determines how deep the caries has penetrated and decides which filling material is best to choose.

After this, local anesthesia or sedation is performed. It is recommended for complex manipulations or treatment of several teeth at once.

Next, the doctor prepares the tooth, removing carious tissues with a drill and other tools, and then treats it with an antiseptic.

After completing this stage, the dentist applies filling material in layers, closing the resulting cavity and restoring the correct shape of the tooth.

Sometimes, in the case of deep caries or pulpitis, the nerves are removed. In this case, medicine is placed in the prepared tooth and closed with a temporary filling, which is replaced with a permanent one after a few days.

The department of pediatric dentistry "Oxford Medical" employs experienced dentists of various specialties. They are not only professionals in their field, but also know how to find an approach to each child or teenager. Thanks to the use of game adaptation methods, a visit to the clinic turns into a fun adventure for the child and passes without unnecessary stress.

The “Oxford Medical” dental clinics are located in the central districts of Kyiv. Reception is conducted 7 days a week.
