Proper home care is very important. The main thing is to maintain hydration and follow dietary recommendations.
Basic principles of care:
- drink frequently in small portions (saline solutions, compotes, still water);
- ensure rest and peace;
- monitor body temperature;
- avoid contact with other children;
- thorough hand and surface hygiene.
With rotavirus infection, the diet should be light and not irritate the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract.
In the acute phase of the disease, it is recommended to:
- exclude dairy products, fatty and fried foods;
- avoid fresh vegetables and fruits;
- do not consume carbonated drinks, juices, or confectionery.
When the symptoms disappear, a post-rotavirus diet is introduced, which includes porridge cooked in water, baked apples, crackers, and vegetable purees. Gradually expanding the diet allows digestion to recover.
For rotavirus infection in children, the diet should be tailored to the child's age and individual characteristics. For the youngest children, continue breastfeeding with additional fluids. For older children, give small portions of food with high energy value.
