Eye injury treatment
The most important factor in cases of foreign bodies entering the eye and eye injuries is the correct provision of first aid and timely consultation with an ophthalmologist. As part of emergency care, you can only apply disinfecting eye drops or use an antibacterial ointment. After that, it is necessary to apply a clean bandage and urgently seek an appointment with an ophthalmologist. In case of blunt eye trauma, cold can be applied over the bandage to the forehead or temple.
If a foreign body gets into the eye, you should never try to remove it yourself; this can only be done by a doctor using special equipment.
During the appointment, the doctor first examines the patient, studies their complaints, выясняет причины и обстоятельства повреждения глаза, тяжесть травмы. Based on the obtained information, the ophthalmologist determines the treatment method. If necessary, for a detailed assessment of the condition of the internal structures of the eye and surrounding tissues, the doctor may refer the patient for an MRI of the eyes, which allows detecting hidden injuries that are not always identified during the initial examination.
In cases of foreign bodies, as well as in the treatment of non-penetrating and blunt eye injuries, the doctor’s goal is not only to preserve the eye itself intact but also to prevent vision loss in the patient.
In case of eye injuries, call immediately and you will be scheduled for an appointment with an ophthalmologist at «Oxford Medical» clinic.
