Treatment of fractures
Fracture treatment in Kiev
A fracture is a break in the integrity of a bone due to damage caused by external force. No one is immune to fractures, but they are particularly common in children, enthusiasts of extreme sports and leisure activities, athletes, etc.
A separate group of patients prone to fractures are people with bones weakened by disease. These are mainly older women suffering from osteoporosis, who can suffer fractures even under light loads.
Signs of a fracture
Symptoms that occur with a bone fracture can be divided
into absolute (clearly indicating a fracture) and relative (there are signs of injury, but there is no certainty that the bone is broken).
Absolute symptoms are:
the presence of mobility where there are no joints
crunching sound when probing the injured area (crepitation)
an open wound with visible bone fragments
Relative symptoms of a bone fracture:
- pain that may intensify with stress, movement, or palpation of the broken limb;
- atypical appearance of the limb;
- possible appearance of hematoma (bruise) and swelling.
First aid for a fracture
First aid for a fracture consists of fixing the limb and transporting the patient to a traumatologist as soon as possible. During the appointment, the traumatologist examines and palpates the limb, after which he refers the patient for an X-ray.
At the Oxford Medical clinic, X-ray examination is performed using a Siemens Multix Select DR digital X-ray, which allows for clear and informative images.
For more complex fractures (displaced fractures), it is possible to prescribe not an X-ray, but a CT (computed tomography) scan, which can provide more information than an X-ray. For such an examination, a 64-slice Somatom go.Up computed tomography scanner, manufactured by the German company Siemens, is used.
