SALT ROOM
SALT ROOM
Halotherapy or speleotherapy is a therapeutic session of staying in the room with the air saturated with microparticles of salt and minerals. In the microclimate of the salt room, as close as possible to the conditions of natural salt caves, there are practically no allergens and pollutants, and a high amount of salt ions is contained. This air is useful for patients with diseases of the respiratory system, a tendency to allergic reactions, mild stages of hypertension.
When salt therapy is prescribed
A patient needs a doctor’s referral for visiting the salt room. In most cases it is issued by a therapist or pediatrician. But other specialists, for example, an allergist, can also prescribe salt therapy. A doctor's consultation is necessary to make sure that there are indications and no contraindications. Only in this case a visit to the salt room will be as effective and safe for the patient as possible.
At the same time visiting the salt room for patients with acute bronchitis or bronchial asthma at the stage of exacerbation is contraindicated. Halotherapy sessions are also harmful to patients with kidney diseases, tuberculosis, febrile conditions, coronary insufficiency and oncological pathologies. If you have at least one of these contraindications, visiting the salt room is not recommended. Claustrophobia can also make it difficult or impossible to visit the salt room.
Indications for salt room therapy
Speleotherapy sessions are indicated for:
people with high blood pressure (arterial hypertension)
patients with chronic bronchitis and ENT diseases (sinusitis, pharyngitis)
allergy patients
in the initial stages of bronchial asthma
those who are overweight
with neuroses
What does a salt room session look like?
Speleotherapy sessions at the «Oxford Medical» Clinic are held hourly, so it is important to be in time, so that not to reduce the period of staying in the salt room. During the session patients are sitting in comfortable chairs. The salt room is designed for simultaneous treatment of 8 people.
A halotherapy session is not only a therapeutic procedure, but also an opportunity to relax and unwind without being distracted by external stimuli (conversations, mobile devices, etc.). Ideally the procedure should be carried out when a patient is relaxed - then it will have not only a physiological, but also a psychological effect.
How halotherapy works
Microscopic salt crystals sprayed in the air easily penetrate the human respiratory system. Their healing effect is based on the antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and mucolytic properties of salt. Inhalation of salt spray dilutes sputum, facilitates the removal of mucus from the lungs, facilitates breathing.
After a course of halotherapy cough is relieved, shortness of breath is reduced, the need to use inhalers is reduced, and the body's resistance to diseases transmitted by airborne droplets increases. In patients with allergies or bronchial asthma longer periods of remission can be achieved.
