The treatment tactics depend on the form of mastopathy (diffuse or nodular), the severity of symptoms, and the hormonal status of the woman. Not every case requires active drug therapy. If changes in the breast tissue are not accompanied by significant pain or progression, the doctor may recommend dynamic monitoring with regular examinations.
If clinically significant mastopathy is confirmed, the treatment is primarily aimed at correcting hormonal imbalance and reducing manifestations. Drug therapy may include:
- preparations for normalizing the ratio of estrogens and progesterone;
- agents for lowering prolactin levels — in the presence of confirmed hyperprolactinemia;
- progesterone-based preparations of local or systemic action;
- nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce pain;
- vitamin complexes and preparations with antioxidant action.
It should be noted that attempts to use folk methods independently, in particular the treatment of mastopathy with honey, do not affect the hormonal mechanisms of the disease and cannot replace full-fledged medical treatment of mastopathy of the mammary glands.
If concomitant endocrine or gynecological disorders are detected, comprehensive treatment of mastopathy is carried out. Depending on the indications, consultations with a gynecologist or endocrinologist and additional correction of hormonal levels may be recommended.
An important component of therapy is lifestyle correction. It is recommended:
- to normalize the sleep and rest regimen;
- to reduce the level of chronic stress;
- to control body weight;
- to limit excessive caffeine consumption;
- to stop smoking.
In most cases, diffuse forms of mastopathy respond well to conservative therapy. Regular monitoring of the condition of the mammary glands and timely correction of hormonal disorders allow stabilization of the process and reduction of the risk of progression of changes.
