Children's urologist

The urological diseases is the fate of not only adults; it is a widespread problem among children. The diseases of the urinary system, not timely treated, can seriously complicate life in the future – in the adult age.

Therefore, it is important that in case of appearance of the first alarm signs, the child is not ashamed to apply to the adults, and they, in their turn, do not delay the visit to a pediatric urologist.

The problems of the urogenital system in children are encountered quite often, because they can be caused by many factors: infectious diseases, congenital defects, complications after traumas, hormonal disorders, and infectious diseases.

Only after the consultation with the specialist, you can determine which of the above-listed causes induce the development of disease in the concrete child. The independent diagnosis of urological diseases is virtually impossible, because different diseases can cause the similar symptoms.

Preventive examination by a pediatric urologist

Urological diseases can be both acquired and congenital, that is, formed during the period of intrauterine development. Most often, they are diagnosed during prenatal screening, which pregnant women undergo at different times, or immediately after the birth of the baby. But some pathologies can manifest themselves later, at the age of 4-5 and even 12-15 years, when puberty begins. Therefore, even in the absence of complaints, both boys and girls are recommended to be brought for preventive examinations to a pediatric urologist.

You need to undergo a consultation at:

  • 1 month;
  • 3 months;
  • 12 months;
  • 3-4 years;
  • 7-9 years;
  • 14 years.

During the first visit, a pediatric urologist will exclude the main developmental anomalies, tell parents about the features of the development of the genitourinary system in a child and teach them to properly perform hygiene procedures.

Diagnosis of urological diseases in children

For the diagnosis of urological diseases in a child, laboratory and instrumental diagnostics are used. The type and scope of studies are determined by the pediatric urologist after conducting an examination, as well as studying the symptoms and medical history.

A specialist may prescribe:

  • a general urine test;
  • a bacteriological culture of urine;
  • a urine test for microalbumin and other indicators;
  • uroflowmetry - measuring the speed of urination;
  • an ultrasound of the pelvic organs and scrotum in boys;
  • an X-ray with the use of a contrast agent;
  • a computed tomography;
  • a magnetic resonance tomography;
  • cystoscopy - an endoscopic examination of the ureter and bladder;
  • a puncture biopsy - taking a sample of tumor cells with subsequent histological analysis.

In most cases, laboratory tests and ultrasound are sufficient to make a diagnosis. These studies allow to diagnose most inflammatory and infectious diseases, as well as structural changes. Other examinations are additional and are prescribed when more serious pathologies are suspected or the diagnosis needs to be clarified.

Consultation with pediatric urologist in Oxford Medical Clinic

During the session, the pediatric urologist will delicately examine the child and familiarize himself with the complaints and previous diseases. For specifying the diagnosis, the doctor can order analyses and examinations: scrotal ultrasound, hormone test etc. Based on the results of examinations, the doctor selects the most effective and safest treatment course.

The pediatric urologists of Oxford Medical clinic successfully treat:

  • infection of the bladder (cystitis) and kidneys (pyelonephritis);
  • inflammatory processes in the urethra (urethritis);
  • inflammation of the penis, scrotum, testicles and their epididymides;
  • infectious diseases.

Except for physiological complications on other organs, the urological problems can become the reason for worsening the psychological condition of the child, resulting in neurological disorders. That is why, in case of appearance of the first alarm signs, do not delay the visit to the pediatric urologist, because the intervention of the specialist will ensure preservation of the child’s health.
