The transplant is performed mainly under general anesthesia.
The operation begins with antiseptic treatment of the area where the skin graft will be performed. The surgeon washes it with special preparations, if necessary, excises tissues to prepare the conditions for implantation.
After that, the surgeon takes a skin flap from a pre-selected area of the body. Most often, skin is taken from the abdomen, inner thighs, lateral surface of the sternum or shoulders. When choosing a site, the characteristics of the skin and the size of the flap are taken into account, and an attempt is made to minimize the patient's aesthetic discomfort from a possible scar.
Next, the surgeon transfers the skin implant to the wound and applies a sterile bandage.
