Dopplerography is most often performed to assess the condition of the vessels. This is an ultrasound examination that allows for real-time visualization of blood flow, the presence of blood clots and other pathologies, and their exact location and size.

If necessary, the patient may also be prescribed angiography, Ultrasound of the heart, and ultrasound of the vessels of the head and neck. Also, immediately before surgery, a cardiogram (ECG) and laboratory tests are performed.

Thrombectomy is performed under local (spinal) or general (general) anesthesia. The choice of technique depends on the patient's health and the complexity of the operation.

Next, if the operation is performed endovascularly, the surgeon punctures a vein, most often in the inguinal or femoral artery. After that, a catheter with a special balloon is inserted into it.
