Pneumonia treatment
A pneumonia is the inflammation of the lungs, usually caused by the infection. It is a widespread and dangerous disease, from which more than 7 million people die annually all over the world.
Diagnosis and treatment of pneumonia
Independently, at home, it is very difficult to determine pneumonia due to the similarity of its manifestations with the signs of ARVI or bronchitis. The attempts of self-treatment of pneumonia often result in complications and late hospitalization of the patient in the severe condition.
When the patient applies to a family doctor with the symptoms of pneumonia, the doctor examines the patient, analyzes his complaints, auscultates the heart and lungs, measures the pulse and arterial pressure, orders X-ray imaging or CT (computed tomography) scan. If necessary, the sputum, urine and blood tests are administered.
If the diagnosis is confirmed, you need to start treatment as soon as possible. The treatment course includes the antibiotics of a broad spectrum of effect, antiviral preparations, anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic and expectorant drugs. Only the qualified specialist can select the effective and safe combination of preparations for the organism, while the self-treatment only deteriorates the patient’s conditions with pneumonia and can lead to hospitalization.
You can obtain a full doctor’s aid in treatment of the pneumonia without distracting from day-to-day needs in the Day Patient Department of Oxford Medical clinic.
The pneumonia is the dangerous disease, the treatment of which only the doctor should administer.
Causes and symptoms of pneumonia
The disease is most often caused by the bacteria and viruses, more seldom – fungus or
presence of parasites in the organism. The manifestation of pneumonia can be easily confused with the cold or influenza;
that is why it is impossible to establish a precise diagnosis independently; you need to be examined by the doctor.
You need to visit the doctor urgently, if you have:
runny nose
weakness
discharge of mucoid, purulent or bloody sputum
thoracic pain
heart palpitations
difficult breathing
high temperature
headache
change of skin color (the skin becomes livid)
drowsiness or, on the contrary, sleeping disorder
The pain during breathing and expectoration of the large amount of sputum are indicative of appearance of complications. In rare cases, the pneumonia can be accompanied by the nausea, vomit and diarrhea.
The people, falling under the risk group, should be especially careful: people with the weakened immune system, malnutrition, suffering from hyperthermia, constant colds, obesity and chronic diseases, smokers.
