Laser treatment of the cervix
Laser treatment of the cervix
Laser vaporization is the safest treatment for cervical diseases. During the procedure, the damaged area is delicately treated, while the surrounding tissues remain intact.
Indications for Laser Vaporization
Laser vaporization of the cervix is indicated for:
-
cervical ectopy;
-
cervical scarring and deformation;
-
ectropion;
-
cervical leukoplakia;
-
cervical endometriosis;
-
glandular-muscular hypertrophy of the cervix with retention cysts;
-
cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) grade I–II;
-
polyps of the cervical canal;
-
cervical condylomas.
Advantages of Laser Vaporization
- Safety – does not interfere with future pregnancy.
- Effectiveness – maximum depth of action.
- Speed – the procedure takes 15–20 minutes.
How Is Laser Vaporization
of the Cervix Performed?
Preparation for laser treatment of the cervix includes a mandatory comprehensive examination, which involves gynecological smears and laboratory tests. Laser vaporization is carried out only after the inflammatory process is eliminated and oncological pathology is excluded.
Laser vaporization of the cervix is performed in the first phase of the menstrual cycle, with the timing of the procedure scheduled in advance. The patient lies on the gynecological chair, and the doctor examines the cervix, treating it with Lugol’s solution and acetic acid – this helps to differentiate healthy and pathological tissues. Laser exposure is carried out under colposcopic control. Pathological cells are completely removed by vaporization; the procedure is bloodless, which accelerates healing.
The entire process takes no more than 15–20 minutes, after which the patient can leave the clinic.
Postoperative Period
Healing of the cervix takes place gradually and is usually complete within 2–3 weeks. During this period, sexual rest is recommended, and physical exertion is prohibited. Immersion in water is not allowed (showers are permitted), and heat exposure to the abdomen and lower back should be avoided, which is why visiting pools, baths, or saunas is contraindicated.
A follow-up appointment with the gynecologist is scheduled one month after laser treatment of cervical diseases.
Contraindications to Laser
Treatment of the Cervix
Laser treatment for cervical diseases may be contraindicated in the following cases:
-
uterine bleeding;
-
polyps in the upper part of the cervix;
-
inflammatory and infectious diseases of the urogenital system;
-
cervical dysplasia grade 2–3;
-
malignant neoplasms;
-
blood coagulation disorders;
-
acute illnesses.
In such cases, the doctor selects another method of treatment or recommends postponing it until acute conditions are resolved.
