Pregnancy management in Kyiv
Pregnancy Management in Kiev
Carrying a child is a joyful yet responsible period in a woman's life. A healthy pregnancy, successful childbirth, and the well-being of both mother and baby are only possible with qualified medical support throughout this stage.
How Is Pregnancy Determined?
Pregnancy can be suspected independently based on a number of signs:
-
Missed menstruation – after fertilization, the mother’s body increases progesterone production, which blocks menstruation.
-
Morning sickness and altered taste preferences – occur around the fifth week of pregnancy under the influence of lactogen hormone.
-
Breast enlargement – swelling of the mammary glands, increase in size, nipple tenderness.
-
Frequent urination due to the effect of progesterone, which relaxes the bladder sphincter.
-
Emotional changes – the result of hormonal shifts.
These symptoms do not necessarily confirm pregnancy, so it is advisable to purchase a pregnancy test for clarification. A definitive answer can only be provided by a gynecologist after diagnostic evaluation.
Pregnancy diagnostics include:
-
Ultrasound, which allows the physician to detect the gestational sac.
-
Blood test for hCG – human chorionic gonadotropin, which indicates pregnancy.
Registration of Pregnancy
After confirming the pregnancy, the woman registers for medical monitoring and examinations with an obstetrician-gynecologist. Even though childbirth is still far off, registration should not be delayed — it is recommended to register between 5 and 10 weeks of gestation.
During pregnancy, the baby’s body begins to form, so it’s essential to ensure the mother's body is ready to support this process. Upon registration, the gynecologist conducts an examination, colposcopy, determines the gestational age, and orders tests and consultations with narrow specialists: endocrinologist, cardiologist, ophthalmologist, ENT, etc.
Pregnancy Examinations
The condition of the pregnant woman, and in later stages — of the fetus, is monitored during regular visits to the gynecologist. Standard pregnancy examination includes:
-
measurement of blood pressure, pulse (rate and rhythm), and body temperature;
-
general urine analysis;
-
rapid test for protein presence;
-
examination of the lower extremities (from 25–26 weeks of pregnancy);
-
auscultation of the fetal heartbeat (from 25–26 weeks of pregnancy).
To monitor pregnancy, a comprehensive set of lab tests is performed: complete blood count, urine test, biochemical blood analysis, blood group and Rh factor, hemostasis system testing, blood tests for infections, PCR, double (PRISCA I) and triple (PRISCA II) tests for fetal genetic abnormalities, flora smears, cytology, etc.
During each visit, the patient is provided with detailed information about the test results.
