Infertility treatment in Kyiv

Treatment of infertility in women in Kyiv

Up to 15% of women face infertility, but in more than half of cases it can be overcome thanks to modern treatment methods and assisted reproductive technologies.

The medical center "Oxford Medical" has created all the conditions for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of infertility, including in vitro fertilization. The clinic has installed new expert-class equipment and employs highly qualified gynecologists, reproductive specialists and embryologists with many years of experience.

What is female infertility?

Female infertility — is a condition in which a woman cannot become pregnant within a year of regular sexual intercourse without using contraception (or within 6 months if the woman is over 35 years old). It is not a separate disease, but a consequence of various disorders in the body that make it difficult to conceive or carry a child. Infertility may be associated with anatomical, hormonal, immunological, genetic or other factors. There are different types of female infertility — primary (if a woman has never been pregnant) and secondary (if pregnancy has occurred in the past, but no longer occurs). To establish the exact cause of infertility, comprehensive diagnostics and specialist consultation are necessary.

Symptoms that may indicate reproductive health problems in women

Fertility disorders often have no obvious symptoms, but there are signs of infertility in women that may signal a problem:

  • Irregular menstrual cycles, delayed or absent periods.

  • Long or excessively heavy menstrual cycles.

  • Lower abdominal pain, especially during menstruation or sexual intercourse.

  • Vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor, change in color or consistency.

  • Difficulty conceiving after a year of regular unprotected sex.

  • Frequent miscarriages or stillbirths.

  • Acne, excessive hair growth, weight change for no apparent reason.

  • Chronic fatigue, irritability, mood swings.

If you notice one or more of these symptoms, it is recommended to consult a gynecologist or reproductive specialist for an examination. Early detection of disorders allows you to start treatment in a timely manner and increase the chances of pregnancy.

Causes of female infertility

Infertility – is not a separate disease, but a consequence of certain disorders in the body. To overcome it, you need to find out the root cause. Only in this way can you choose an effective treatment or method of assisted reproductive technologies (ART).

The causes of infertility in women can be:

  • Congenital anomalies of the development of the reproductive system. Disorders of the formation of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes or other organs that make pregnancy difficult or impossible.

  • Impaired patency of the fallopian tubes. Formation of adhesions, narrowing or blockage of the tubes, which prevents the egg from meeting with the sperm

  • Diseases of the cervix. The occurrence of pathological changes in the mucous membrane, polyps, dysplasia or chronic infections that prevent the passage of sperm.

  • Chronic inflammatory diseases. Long-term inflammatory processes in the pelvic organs, which can cause scarring, adhesions and dysfunction of the reproductive system.

  • Latent infections of the genitourinary system. Asymptomatic or asymptomatic course of infections (for example, chlamydia, mycoplasmosis, ureaplasmosis), which reduces fertility.

  • Hormonal disorders. Failure in the production of hormones responsible for follicle growth, ovulation, and maintenance of endometrial function.

  • Disorders of ovulation and egg maturation. Absence or irregularity of ovulation, incomplete maturation of the egg, which makes conception impossible.

  • Polycystic ovary syndrome. A hormonal disease in which numerous small cysts form on the ovaries, which disrupts ovulation.

  • Endometriosis. A disease in which endometrial cells grow outside the uterus, causing adhesions, chronic pain and infertility.

  • Polyps or uterine fibroids. Benign neoplasms in the uterine cavity that can prevent embryo implantation or lead to menstrual cycle disorders.

  • Immune disorders. The presence of antibodies in the female body that attack sperm or its own germ cells, preventing conception.

  • Genetic diseases, etc. Congenital disorders at the gene or chromosome level that affect the functions of the reproductive system and the ability to fertilize.

With age, especially when choosing delayed motherhood, the likelihood of infertility increases. Therefore, it is important to take care of reproductive health in advance and consult specialists in a timely manner.

Types of female infertility

Depending on the possibility of conception and carrying a fetus, they are distinguished:

  • relative - pregnancy is possible after treatment or IVF;

  • absolute - conception or carrying a pregnancy is impossible due to physiological characteristics.

Also, if the patient has not yet conceived, they speak of primary infertility, and if there was - about secondary.

Depending on the cause, female infertility is defined as:

  • uterine - associated with a change in the structure of the uterus, neoplasms or diseases;

  • ovarian - occurs with polycystic ovary syndrome, premature depletion of the follicular reserve;

  • tubal – associated with the formation of adhesions in the fallopian tubes, their narrowing and impaired patency, removal;

  • endocrine – develops with hormonal disorders;

  • endometrioid – develops against the background of endometriosis and its complications;

  • immunological – conception does not occur due to the presence of antibodies in the cervical secretions that destroy sperm;

  • age – in middle-aged and older women, the frequency of anovulatory cycles increases, when conception is impossible;

  • mixed - there are several causes of infertility.

Diagnosis of infertility in women

Establishing the cause of infertility requires a comprehensive approach, because the effectiveness of further treatment depends on the correct diagnosis. Diagnostics begins with a detailed history taking and analysis of symptoms, after which the doctor draws up an individual examination plan.

The main stages of diagnosing infertility in women:

  • Consultation and history taking. The doctor asks about the duration of attempts to get pregnant, the characteristics of the menstrual cycle, previous illnesses, surgeries, the presence of bad habits, lifestyle and other important factors.

  • Gynecological examination. The condition of the external and internal genital organs is assessed, possible anatomical changes or pathologies are determined.

  • Bacteriological analysis of the smear. Allows you to detect pathogenic microorganisms that can cause chronic inflammatory processes and reduce fertility.

  • PAP test (cytological analysis of a scraping from the cervix). Aimed at the early detection of precancerous conditions and diseases of the cervix that can affect conception.

  • General blood test, group and Rh factor analysis. Allows you to assess the general state of health, detect hidden inflammatory processes or anemia.

  • Blood test for TORCH infections. Detects the presence of infections dangerous to pregnancy (toxoplasmosis, rubella, cytomegalovirus, herpes).

  • Hormonal tests. Determination of the level of basic hormones (estrogens, progesterone, FSH, LH, prolactin, testosterone and others), which are responsible for ovarian function, ovulation, and preparation of the endometrium for embryo implantation.

  • Karyotype analysis. Evaluation of the chromosome set to exclude genetic abnormalities that may affect the ability to conceive.

  • Colposcopy. Examination of the cervix under magnification, which allows for a detailed study of the mucous membrane and the detection of pathological changes.
    Ultrasound of the pelvic organs. Assesses the condition of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, makes it possible to detect polycystic disease, fibroids, polyps, adhesions, congenital anomalies.

  • Hysterosalpingography. An X-ray examination that allows you to assess the patency of the fallopian tubes, detect adhesions, kinks, and obstructions.

  • Additional examinations according to indications. If necessary, MRI, endometrial biopsy, laparoscopy, immunological or other specialized studies may be prescribed.

Infertility is diagnosed if pregnancy does not occur within 12 months of regular sexual life without contraception (or 6 months — if the woman is over 35 years old). In such a situation, the partner must also undergo an examination, because in a third of cases the cause of infertility is associated with the male factor.

Comprehensive diagnostics allows you to accurately determine the cause of infertility and choose the most effective treatment tactics.

Treatment of female infertility

Modern medicine offers a wide range of methods for treating female infertility, which make it possible to overcome its various forms. Thanks to the development of reproductive technologies and the improvement of medical approaches, the effectiveness of treatment has increased significantly over the past decade.

Main areas of treatment for female infertility:

1. Drug therapy. It is prescribed when inflammatory and infectious diseases of the reproductive system, hormonal disorders, ovulation disorders are detected. Includes antibiotics, antiviral agents, immunomodulators, hormonal drugs to stimulate ovulation or correct the endocrine background. Treatment is selected individually, taking into account the age, cause and concomitant diseases of the patient.

2. Surgical treatment. It is used in the presence of anatomical or structural obstacles to pregnancy: endometriosis, fallopian tube obstruction, adhesions in the small pelvis, fibroids, polyps, cysts, polycystic ovary syndrome. In most cases, minimally invasive techniques are used - hysteroscopy (endoscopic intervention through the cervix) and laparoscopy (surgery through small punctures in the abdominal wall). They allow you to eliminate the pathology with minimal trauma and quick rehabilitation. In complex cases, abdominal surgery may be required.

3. Assisted reproductive technology (ART) methods. Used when natural conception is impossible or unlikely due to severe disorders in the woman or partner. The most common methods are:

  • In vitro fertilization (IVF). The egg is fertilized with sperm in a laboratory, after which the resulting embryo is transferred to the uterine cavity. IVF is recommended for tubal obstruction, severe forms of endometriosis, anovulation, infertility of unclear etiology, failures of previous treatment, as well as in cases of age factor.

  • Intrauterine insemination (ICSI). Pre-treated sperm from a partner or donor are injected into the woman's uterus during ovulation. This method is indicated for minor disorders of spermatogenesis, cervical factor infertility, as well as in some cases of infertility of unknown cause.

The choice of treatment method is always based on the individual characteristics of the patient, her age, duration of infertility, the presence of concomitant diseases and diagnostic results. Often, in case of infertility in women, several methods are prescribed to achieve maximum treatment effectiveness.

At the medical center «Oxford Medical» patients have access to all modern technologies for the treatment of infertility. Here, comprehensive diagnostics, drug and surgical treatment, as well as a full range of assisted reproductive procedures, including IVF and ICSI, are performed. All procedures are performed by experienced specialists using modern equipment, which increases the chances of a successful pregnancy.

The importance of psychological support and specialist consultations during infertility treatment

Infertility treatment is often accompanied by strong emotional stress, feelings of anxiety, stress, and uncertainty about the future. Long waiting for the result, numerous examinations and procedures can affect the psychological state of the woman and her partner, as well as the relationship in the couple.

Psychological support during infertility treatment is extremely important because:

  • Helps to cope with negative emotions, reduce stress and anxiety.

  • Helps to maintain trusting relationships in the family and support the partner.

  • Makes it easier to make decisions about choosing treatment methods and undergoing reproductive procedures.

  • Helps to maintain motivation, not to give up on the path to the desired pregnancy.

Consultations with a psychotherapist or psychologist, as well as regular support from medical staff and loved ones significantly increase emotional comfort and improve overall treatment results.

At the medical center «Oxford Medical» each patient can receive comprehensive care — not only medical, but also psychological support from experienced specialists. This approach allows you to maintain emotional balance and confidence at all stages of infertility treatment.

Prevention of female infertility

Infertility prevention consists of timely detection and treatment of diseases that can lead to reproductive disorders, as well as maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Following simple recommendations helps reduce the risk of infertility and preserve reproductive health for many years.

Main measures to prevent female infertility:

  • Regular visits to a gynecologist for preventive examinations and early detection of diseases.

  • Timely treatment of infections and inflammatory processes of the pelvic organs.

  • Observing the rules of personal hygiene and safe sexual behavior, using barrier contraception to prevent sexually transmitted infections.

  • Weight control, balanced nutrition, giving up bad habits (smoking, alcohol abuse).

  • Maintaining physical activity, avoiding stress and excessive physical exertion loads.

  • Timely diagnosis and treatment of endocrine, autoimmune and other chronic diseases.

  • Planning pregnancy in the reproductive age - with age the risk of infertility increases, so it is important not to postpone motherhood without objective reasons.

  • Avoiding uncontrolled use of medications, especially hormonal drugs.

Following these recommendations helps to preserve a woman's reproductive health and increases the chances of successful conception in the future.
