Treatment of cervicitis is aimed at eliminating the cause of the inflammation and restoring the mucous membrane of the cervix. The tactic is selected individually — depending on the pathogen, the form of the disease, and the results of the examination.
Main methods of treatment:
- medication treatment — prescribed in the infectious nature of the disease; antibacterial, antiviral, or antifungal drugs are used in accordance with the test results;
- local treatment — the use of vaginal suppositories, gels, or solutions to reduce inflammation, discomfort, and restore the mucous membrane.
In most cases, this is sufficient for the complete elimination of the inflammatory process.
If, after treatment of the infection, changes in the mucous membrane of the cervix remain or the inflammation has a prolonged, recurrent course, additional treatment methods may be used. Their purpose is to remove altered areas of tissue that support the inflammatory process and to create conditions for the restoration of a healthy mucous membrane.
In such cases, the doctor may recommend:
- radiowave treatment of the cervix — gentle removal of altered tissues with minimal trauma and rapid healing;
- laser treatment of the cervix — targeted воздействие on the affected areas, which makes it possible to carefully treat the tissues and stimulate their restoration;
- cryodestruction — exposure to cold, which destroys the superficial altered cells of the mucous membrane.
These procedures do not treat the infection, but are used after the main treatment to eliminate the consequences of the inflammation and reduce the risk of recurrence of the disease.
