Surgical defloration is a medical procedure aimed at opening the hymen. It is performed both according to medical indications and at the patient's personal request.
The hymen (hymen) is a membrane located in the vagina at a depth of about 2-3 cm. Its rupture usually occurs during the first vaginal intercourse, but in some cases, artificial removal of the hymen may be required.
Hymenectomy is a fairly simple procedure. It does not require hospitalization, takes up to half an hour and is performed under local anesthesia for the patient's comfort. In one to two weeks, a woman can have a full-fledged sexual life.
At Oxford Medical, surgical defloration is performed by experienced obstetrician-gynecologists. The procedure takes place in comfortable conditions and with complete confidentiality.
Indications for surgical defloration
Normally, the hymen is moderately elastic and easily ruptures during the first sexual intercourse. In some women, this causes moderate pain and slight bleeding. However, studies show that more than half of girls under the age of 25 do not experience pronounced discomfort.
Another feature of the hymen is the presence of pores through which menstrual blood should flow freely. If the hymen is solid, too tight or, conversely, elastic, a woman may be recommended surgical defloration.
The main indications for hymen dissection are:
-
hymen atresia – lack of pores, which disrupts the outflow of menstrual discharge;
-
high membrane density, which creates an obstacle to vaginal intercourse and does not tear naturally;
-
increased elasticity of the hymen, which causes it to stretch during intercourse but does not tear;
-
fragmented hymen– the presence of strips of tissue in the vagina that do not break down and cause discomfort or pain with each sexual act.
In the first case, surgical defloration is mandatory, since disruption of the outflow of menstrual blood can lead to serious complications, including amenorrhea.
In addition to the above indications, surgical dissection of the female hymen can also be performed at the patient's personal request. Each woman may have her own reasons for this.
Preparing for surgical defloration
First of all, you should make an appointment with a gynecologist. The doctor will conduct an examination and assess the condition of the hymen. He will take a swab for analysis on microflora, and also prescribe blood and urine tests.
The examination allows you to confirm the need for surgical defloration, as well as exclude diseases that may temporarily contraindicate the procedure.
How is the procedure performed?
Surgical defloration is performed on an outpatient basis, that is, without hospitalization. It usually takes 15 to 30 minutes.
The procedure is performed as follows:
- The woman is seated on a gynecological chair.
- The gynecologist administers local anesthesia.
- The hymen is dissected with a sterile scalpel.
- The hymen fragments are sutured to prevent them from growing together.
The sutures are applied with threads that dissolve on their own within 2 weeks.
Recovery after the procedure
Full rehabilitation after hymenectomy takes up to 2-3 weeks.
At this time, gynecologists recommend:
Carefully monitor intimate hygiene
Abstain from sexual contact.
Do not use tampons
Avoid intense physical activity
Do not swim in pools and open water.
To ensure the successful completion of the procedure and tissue healing, you should come for a repeat examination by a gynecologist.
