Cervical cryodestruction
Cryodestruction of the cervix in Kiev
A loyalty program is available for surgical interventions in the hospital, which makes treatment even more affordable.
Cryodestruction is one of the minimally invasive methods of treating cervical diseases. It is based on the use of liquid nitrogen cooled to -196°C. At this temperature, cells are rapidly frozen, which leads to their destruction and subsequent rejection. Thus, a section of pathological tissue is removed, in place of which normal epithelium subsequently grows.
Cryodestruction is most often used for erosion, dysplasia or polyps on the cervix.
This procedure:
- is painless;
- does not require hospitalization;
- has a minimal risk of complications;
- is accompanied by a short and easy rehabilitation period.
At Oxford Medical, cryodestruction of the cervix is performed by gynecological surgeons with many years of experience. They apply an individual approach to each patient and prescribe this procedure only in cases where it is the optimal treatment option. In other cases, specialists may recommend radio wave coagulation or surgical excision of tissues.
The clinic has installed new expert-class equipment, which allows for highly accurate examinations and the use of advanced treatment methods.

When is cervical cryodestruction prescribed?
Cryosurgery is used for cervical diseases accompanied by changes in the mucous membrane tissues.
In particular, the procedure can be used to treat:
- cervical erosion;
- cervical dysplasia of the I and II degrees;
- leukoplakia;
- chronic cervicitis that is not amenable to conservative therapy;
- polyps in the cervical canal.
Cryodestruction of cervical erosion and other pathologies is a gentle, minimally invasive procedure. Unlike surgical excision, it does not provoke the appearance of scars that can cause problems with conception. Due to this, cervical cryotherapy is used, in particular, in women who plan pregnancy in the future.
How to prepare for cervical cryodestruction
Freezing cervical erosion requires simple preparation. In particular:
- for 3 days before the procedure, you should refrain from sexual intercourse, do not use tampons and other vaginal products, do not douche;
- on the eve of the visit to the doctor, perform intimate hygiene.
In addition, at the diagnostic stage, a woman may be prescribed:
- extended colposcopy - examination of the cervix with a test with Lugol's solution to determine the boundaries of erosion or dysplasia;
- cytological examination of a scraping from the cervix (PAP test);
- bacteriological analysis of a smear of urogenital secretions;
- biopsy with subsequent histological analysis of the biopsy;
- blood and urine tests;
- pelvic ultrasound.
The results of the examinations allow the gynecologist to identify indications for cauterization of erosion with nitrogen or treatment of another disease with this method, as well as to exclude contraindications.
How is cervical cryodestruction performed?
Cryodestruction does not require hospitalization and can be performed during a regular gynecological appointment. In case of cervical erosion, freezing with liquid nitrogen takes about 20 minutes and the patient can leave the clinic almost immediately after the procedure is completed.
Main stages of cervical cryosurgery:
-
The patient is placed on a gynecological chair.
-
The gynecologist installs mirrors and uses special instruments to dilate the cervical canal.
-
Performs an extended colposcopy – examines the cervix through a microscope and applies a special solution to it to determine the border of the pathological process.
-
Inserts a cryoprobe, from which liquid nitrogen is released, which causes instant freezing and destruction of tissues.
-
After the procedure is completed, a second examination is performed and all instruments are removed.
After freezing the cervix, pathological tissues are gradually rejected and excreted from the body along with natural secretions. Gradually, normal epithelium grows in their place.

Rehabilitation after treatment of cervical dysplasia or erosion with liquid nitrogen
The recovery period after treatment for cervical dysplasia or frozen erosion is easy for most patients. Mild discomfort or pain, as well as spotting, may occur for a few days.
Until full recovery, which takes 4 to 6 weeks, patients are advised to:
Abstain from sexual contact.
Do not use tampons
Limit intense physical activity
Do not visit swimming pools, saunas, or swim in open water.
Follow all doctor's orders and attend check-ups on time.
After freezing the erosion, the risk of complications is minimal, but in case of severe pain, bleeding, fever, or other symptoms, you should consult a doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
