Diagnosis is aimed at determining the cause of excessive gas formation and excluding diseases of the digestive system that may be accompanied by abdominal bloating.
The examination begins with a doctor's consultation. During the appointment, complaints, the duration of manifestations, their connection with nutrition, lifestyle, and concomitant diseases are clarified.
If necessary, the following may be prescribed:
- laboratory tests — help assess digestive processes and identify signs of inflammation;
- stool analysis — allows detection of microflora disturbances or enzyme deficiency;
- abdominal ultrasound — is used to assess the condition of the organs of the digestive system;
- endoscopic examination methods — are used when intestinal diseases or other pathologies are suspected.
In some cases, increased flatulence may be a consequence of inflammatory processes, in particular enterocolitis, or impaired intestinal motility. That is why the scope of examinations is determined individually. This approach makes it possible to establish the cause of flatulence and select effective treatment.
