Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a minimally invasive operation that allows the gallbladder to be removed through several punctures in the abdominal cavity.

The operation is prescribed for complicated forms of gallstone disease, cholecystitis, choledocholithiasis, gallbladder cholesterosis, gallbladder wall calcification, gallbladder polyps, and functional gallbladder disorders.

The operation is performed under general anesthesia - the patient falls asleep before the operation, does not feel anything during the removal and is brought out of anesthesia after the cholecystectomy is completed. The intervention itself lasts less than an hour (on average about 40 minutes), although sometimes the operation can last up to two hours.

Approximately one to five patients out of a hundred are contraindicated for cholecystectomy due to the abnormal structure of the biliary tract, pronounced inflammatory or adhesive processes.

During the operation, no incision is made, all manipulations are performed through three to four punctures of small diameter (approximately 5-10 mm). In these punctures, the surgeon inserts trocars - special tubes, through which, using special clamps and electrodes, under the control of a video camera, the removal is performed. The quality of the image transmitted by modern video systems provides a better overview than during open operations. After removal of the gallbladder, the patient is observed around the clock by qualified medical personnel in the inpatient department. The first 4-6 hours after surgery, the patient is prohibited from getting up, after which he can first sit up carefully in bed, and then, with the permission of the doctor, get up. Most patients are discharged 24-48 hours after cholecystectomy.

The first meal is allowed the day after surgery, and before that, you can only drink a little clean still water. After discharge, patients must follow a diet and all the doctor's recommendations.

Most patients, in the absence of concomitant diseases, after six months lead a normal lifestyle, with almost no restrictions in food, except for the general recommendations for a healthy diet for all people. Patients with concomitant diseases are recommended to undergo further treatment.
