Acute appendicitis is one of the most common reasons for surgical intervention. Inflammation of the appendix manifests itself as sharp pain in the right iliac region of the abdomen. Congestive phenomena in the biliary tract contribute to the formation of stones, and during an exacerbation of the disease, bile ducts become blocked by calculi, and the outflow of bile from the gallbladder is disrupted.

The main symptoms are severe pain in the right hypochondrium, nausea, and a bitter taste in the mouth. Without treatment, there is a high probability of cholecystitis – inflammation of the gallbladder. In this case, gallbladder removal – cholecystectomy – is performed. There are various drugs and methods for “crushing” calculi, but in most cases, pronounced symptoms of the disease appear when there are so many stones that the only option is surgical removal.

The main symptom of acute pancreatitis is very severe pain in the upper third of the abdomen. The pain may be bursting, burning, radiating to the lower back, or surrounding in nature. The patient may have severe nausea up to vomiting, which does not bring relief; diarrhea may occur. Symptoms of general intoxication also appear: body temperature up to 38°C, general weakness, exhaustion, tremors in the limbs, dizziness.

Surgical intervention for acute pancreatitis is indicated if there is no effect from conservative treatment, or if due to necrosis of the pancreatic tissue, the patient develops purulent complications (abscesses, cysts, pseudocysts, etc.). Most often, partial removal of the tail or body of the pancreas (distal resection) is performed. In some cases, resection of a large part of the gland may be necessary.

A hernia is the protrusion of organs from the cavities normally occupied by them, while their covering membranes remain intact. Protrusion of an organ or its part may occur under the skin, into the intermuscular space, or into internal cavities. Ventral hernias – hernias of the abdominal wall or abdominal hernias – are most often diagnosed.
