You need to act in the following sequence:
- Sit upright and tilt your head slightly forward.
- Breathe through your mouth, and spit out any blood that enters the oral cavity.
- Using your thumb and index finger, firmly press the sides of the nose against the septum.
- Hold the nose continuously for 10–15 minutes without interruption.
- You can apply a cold compress to the bridge of the nose or the cheeks, but compression of the nose remains the main method of stopping the bleeding.
If a blood clot has formed in the nose, do not try to remove it immediately: it helps close the damaged blood vessel. After the bleeding stops, for several hours it is not recommended to blow your nose, bend over, lift heavy objects, or perform intense physical exercises
