Sanitation of the tonsils is performed on an outpatient basis in the otolaryngologist's office. If necessary, before the start, the ENT doctor treats the mucous membrane of the oropharynx with a local anesthetic to reduce unpleasant sensations.
Depending on the clinical situation, sanitation of the tonsillar lacunae may be performed using a special syringe with a cannula or a vacuum system. The doctor delivers an antiseptic solution into the lacunae, which washes out purulent plugs. The lacunae are cleansed, after which the tonsils, if necessary, are treated again with a medicinal solution.
Cleaning of the glands usually lasts 10–15 minutes. To achieve a lasting result, the doctor may recommend a course of several sessions, the number of which is determined individually.
